Surprise Battle of Four

Caldron Pool(#270R/GKLM)
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
The best word for this spot might be grandiose. To the west water roars from a fall, where a river somewhere in the western wilds crashes over Narnia’s western border-cliffs to form the great, churning Caldron pool, deep and cold. The path at the edge of the pool forks three ways: east, to follow along the bank of the Great River, north, toward the Gathering Circle and the forest homes, and south fording the relatively small ‘river’ where it continues curving around to the southern side of the pool.

Contents: A wolf with scars over both of his eyes (Drune) and An unicorn stallion with a marred flank (Petraverd).

Petraverd tilts his head, perhaps not missing said twinkle.

Caileana comes padding along the edge of the Pool, posture alert.

Drune smiles thoughtfully after a moment, shaking his head. “Ah well… ” he stretches. “My thoughts are starting to take over this conversation… ” he chuckles. “Forgive me.”

Petraverd says casually, “I thought that was the purpose of it in the first place.”

Caileana’s ears twitch as the sound of voices reach her, and she smiles and pads towards the pair.

Drune snorts, shaking his head. “You have already heard most of my desires for family and the like… hence my thoughtfulness these days. Among many other things… ” he sighs, still not yet noticing Caileana. “If I am being quite forthright… Caileana and I making amends seems to show a brighter hope for such a future. ” he adds, the twinkle brightening.

Petraverd flicks an ear. “I had wondered whether that was where your thoughts were drifting as of late…” Caileana’s approach registers out of the corner of his eye, and he lets out a brief whinny in her direction.

Caileana has by this point arrived close enough to hear Drune’s last words. She smiles softly to herself and bows her head to Petraverd’s whinny. “Good day, Petraverd, Drune,” she says, extending the smile to them as she comes to stand nearby.

Drune’s ears flick at the sound of Petraverd’s whinny, his eyes darting over to follow the greeting. Upon seeing that it is Caileana, he blinks and looks a bit as though he was caught off guard. “Hail, Caileana ” he nods quickly after a moment, swallowing.

Petraverd bobs his head toward the she-Wolf, smiling a bit himself. “Afternoon, Caileana. How does the day find you?”

Caileana gives Drune an intensely self-satisfied look and noses his shoulder reassuringly. Turning to Petraverd, she smiles brightly. “Quite well, Petraverd! And you two?”

Drune’s ears turn a bit pink at her nudge, stealing a glance at Petraverd and attempting desperately to suppress a smile. “I… uh.. ” he coughs. “Am well, Caileana. ” he returns, sucking a breath. “How about yourself?”

Petraverd dips his head. “Doing rather well myself, I’d say, thank you.”

Caileana smirks. “Glad to hear it,” she tells them both, without reanswering Drune’s question. She tips her head. “If I am interrupting,” her smirk deepens, “I can go elsewhere.”

Drune’s eyes widen a bit, shaking his head in turn as he finishes gathering himself. “Ah… no… You are not interrupting at all. ” he returns, shooting another glance at Petraverd.

Petraverd bobs a small nod of agreement with Drune. “Hardly an interruption,” he says. “Your company’s quite welcome, I’d say.”

Caileana smiles and sits down by Drune. “All right, then…”

Drune nods once more at this, maybe a bit more firmly then is normal. As she sits, he glances between the two and claws at the ground. “I’d say so… ” he chuckles softly. “I… uh… We might be making another venture into the caverns tonight. ” he begins in an attempt to smooth over his own awkwardness.

Petraverd nods again in reponse to Drune. “Working my sources, as it were, for a bit more information in regard to both Ironholt and the twisted caverns before pushing farther in those directions, but you’re free to explore the northern passage as you’re able to get a group together.”

Caileana’s ears perk in interest, but her eyes sparkle. “Ah, that is good news, then. I should like to make more progress on that front.”

Drune nods. “Indeed… Hopefully we shall be able to gather a few more of the guard and venture in before the night grows too dark. ”

Petraverd glances to Caileana at her last comment. “Oh /really/. I /never/ would have guessed,” he says with a slight smirk.

Glyn arrives from the north.

Caileana nods to Drune. “Sounds like a good plan.” To Petraverd, she smirks back devilishly. “Am I really that predictable these days,” her tone is wry and matter of fact, as though she’s quoting.

Petraverd merely jerks his head in a noncommital equine shrug, with an amused smirk.

Caileana chuckles at Petraverd, tail skimming along the ground behind her.

Glyn pads toward the pool–yes, the POOL this time–from the south, his tread even and his head high.

Petraverd says simply, “Perhaps some of us have simply because rather accustomed to your particular methods.” He lets out a whinny toward Glyn as he nears, swishing his leonine tail.

Caileana rolls her shoulder in a nonchalant shrug. “Can’t say I’m /that/ surprised,” she smiles. At the whinny, she looks over to Glyn and grins at him. “Hello, Glyn!”

Glyn returns an easy smile as he reaches the knot of familiar beasts. He dips his head to the Unicorn before smiling at his fellow Wolves. “Hello,” he calls. “How does the evening find you?”

Petraverd grins, bobbing his head. “Rather well, in my own case, I’d say.”

Drune’s attention turns to Glyn as he approaches, nodding to him. “Indeed… quite the same for myself. ”

Caileana beams. “Quite well, myself.”

Glyn’s ear lifts with interest at Caileana’s animation. “Well, that’s certainly good to hear. Does that mean good news of some kind?”

Petraverd’s glance shifts to the other Wolves at the question.

Drune’s brow raises a bit, his expression searching as he watches for Caileana’s reply. If one were to look hard enough they might see a smirk beginning to form.

Caileana coughs slightly and the tips of her ears pinken at the scrutiny. “Not particularly,” she says – her voice, at least, even. “Just – things are going well, and I’m happy about it.” She, perhaps notably, keeps from glancing over at Drune at his look.

Glyn’s glance flickers between the two Wolves for a brief moment before he clears his throat. “Well, that’s excellent then. I just got back from hunting so I was looking for a moment to relax with some good company.” His smile returns.

Petraverd glances between his companions, saying gravely, “I’m afraid it appears you’re stuck with /us/, instead.”

Drune snorts, perhaps a bit loudly, at Caileana’s response. Then at Petraverd’s comment, he chuckles softly. “Sad to say, but quite true… the Waste is rather silent tonight. ”

Caileana /ahems/. “I consider myself quite good company, thank you very much.” She sniffs and points her nose in the air, eyes glinting.

Glyn smirks at the circle of faces. “Well, I’m sure we’ll all make do somehow. I’ve at least grown quite accustomed to you all.”

Petraverd says, “Thank goodness. /Some/one had to by now.”

Drune’s expression goes flat at Caileana’s comment, a mischievous twinkle entering his eyes as he glances between her and Cauldron pool. Seemingly thinking the better of starting anything at the moment though, he simply sucks in short breath and looks back to Petraverd and Glyn. “I was beginning to think no one would.” He smirks.

Caileana feigns a wounded expression and shakes her head at Glyn slowly.

Glyn chuckles. “An auspicious beginning, then, perhaps even one to be celebrated.”

Petraverd eyes Glyn. “Ohhhhh no you don’t, I know how you ‘celebrate’ these sorts of things.”

Drune’s brow quirks, his eyes darting between Petraverd and Glyn curiously. “And how might this be?”

Caileana says dryly, “Something involving teeth and claws, I imagine.”

Glyn rolls his shoulders and admits airily, “It wasn’t *that* strenuous a hunt…”

Petraverd only eyes his Subcommander harder at this.

Drune shakes himself out. “Now… I like the sound of this. ”

Caileana hmphs knowingly.

Glyn’s eye glints as he regards Drune. “I knew there was a reason I liked you, Drune. Commander, you should watch this one. He’ll go far.”

Petraverd shakes out his mane, moving over to plunk himself down near Caileana. “Well, if you two want to have at it, then by all means.”

Drune’s eyes spark at this, grinning as he pads a few paces back. Shooting a wry look at Petraverd. “As long as there are no more surprises… I think I would be up for it. ”

Caileana follows Glyn’s glance to Drune and smiles. She smirks at Petraverd and agrees, “By all means, this ought to be good.”

Glyn’s ear twitches at the word ‘surprises’, but he grins and does not hesitate to move to a nearby rock and begin shrugging off his satchel. “What surprises do you mean?”

Aliyah arrives from the north.

Petraverd shakes out his mane. “There shall be none between you and me, I assure you.”

Aliyah pads towards the pool from the direction of the Gathering Circle. She has some noticeable scratches along her shoulder but otherwise seems okay.

Drune snorts, stealing another glance at Petraverd. “Oh, just… surprises. ” he smirks, crouching low and digging his claws into the ground, the fire in his eyes growing.

Caileana watches Drune with obvious amusement.

Glyn grins, intrigued, but lets the matter go and stretches out before settling into a combat stance. “I suspect I might need benefit of a handicap this time around, but if you’d like to go first, Drune, feel free.”

Petraverd merely continues to watch, twitching his ears and saying something quietly to Caileana, so as not to distract the others too terribly.

Petraverd mumbles “You’ll note I said nothing in regards to /you/ and him on the matter.”, to Caileana.

Petraverd mumbles “… … I … nothing in … to /you/ … … on … …”, to Caileana.

Aliyah sits down near Caileana and watches the two male wolves.

Caileana’s ears perk upwards sharply, and she grins deviously at Petraverd, before responding in kind. She glances over at Aliyah and gives her a pleasant, if distracted, nod.

You mumble “Indeed…”, to Petraverd.

Caileana mumbles something incomprehensible to Petraverd.

Drune keeps low, a toothy grin crossing his muzzle as he makes his way closer to the pool, putting his back to it. “Oh, no Glyn… I insist, after you. ”

Petraverd’s expression remains calm and placid as he watches the two, continuing to discuss something or another with Caileana.

Petraverd mumbles “Nor between myself and his opponent. I do believe this has the potential to be very interesting.”, to Caileana.

Petraverd mumbles “… … … … his … … do believe this has … potential … be … interesting.”, to Caileana.

Glyn chuckles, then shakes it off before giving his opponent a measuring look, and begins padding a broad circle about his opponent to the right. At the ten o’clock mark, he abruptly darts forward, testing Drune’s defences with a snap to the shoulder.

>>> Glyn bites Drune! Drune winces in pain, the wound bleeding a little!

You mumble “I quite agree. Just give the word, then …”, to Petraverd.

Caileana mumbles “I … … … … the … then …”, to Petraverd.

Caileana nods to Petraverd.

Aliyah watches the two wolves, not focusing on the weird mumblings.

Drune’ s eyes flash as Glyn darts forward, the smirk leaving his face. As Glyn nears, he leaps forward, pushing through his bite with wince and using both his teeth and weight in an attempt to knock him backward.

>>> Drune nips at Glyn! Glyn catches the blow on his armor! Glyn winces, the bite stinging him a bit.

Petraverd simply nods a little. He continues to speak in low tones, though a little louder, so that the other spectators can hear him properly.

Petraverd mumbles “Strong opening on Glyn’s part. Then again, he does tend to hit hard and fast right from the start.”, to Caileana and Aliyah.

Petraverd mumbles “Strong opening … Glyn’s … … again, he does tend to … … and … … from the start.”, to Caileana and Aliyah.

Aliyah nods.

Glyn’s hind end skids outward a bit as Drune presses in, and he uses the momentum to swing around and land land a bite on the other shoulder.

Caileana nods her agreement and adds something in a similar tone.

>>> Glyn bites Drune hard, his teeth sinking into Drune’s fur. Drune catches the blow on his armor! Drune winces, the bite stinging him a bit.

You mumble “Ah, but Drune’s strong point is working though pain.”, to Petraverd and Aliyah.

Caileana mumbles “… … Drune’s … point is working … …”, to Petraverd and Aliyah.

Drune pulls back hard after his attack, rearing up in an attempting to avoid his bite but to no avial as Glyn catches the band around his foreleg. Letting out a growl, he uses his hindlegs to lunge forward and take another snap at Glyn.

>>> Drune bites Glyn! Glyn winces, the bite stinging him a bit.

Petraverd nods in agreement with Caileana, continuing his running commentary.

Petraverd mumbles “Indeed. Takes him a bit to hit his stride, usually, but the longer it goes, the more tenacious and hard-hitting he gets.”, to Caileana and Aliyah.

Petraverd mumbles “Indeed. Takes … … … … … his … … … the … it … the … tenacious … hard-hitting he …”, to Caileana and Aliyah.

Glyn grunts as Drune’s teeth gain purchase on his shoulder, and he yanks backward hard to wrench it away. Darting around in a tight circle, he makes a dive for the left flank.

>>> Glyn bites Drune! Drune winces in pain, the wound bleeding a little!

Caileana tips her head and answers.

Aliyah grins a bit, seeing something in Glyn she saw in herself earlier in the day.

You mumble “Right, he has stamina. They’re both probably equally matched overall, though.”, to Aliyah and Petraverd.

Caileana mumbles “Right, he has stamina. They’re … probably … … overall, though.”, to Aliyah and Petraverd.

Aliyah mumbles “Yet Glyn had Virika as a trainer. I have seen what she can do.”, to Caileana and Petraverd.

Aliyah mumbles “Yet … had Virika … … trainer. I have seen … she … do.”, to Caileana and Petraverd.

Drune lets out a snarl as he feels the sting of Glyn’s teeth. Twisting hard, his eyes flicker to the pool and then back to Glyn. Then, bounding away, he turns around quickly and puts Glyn between him and the pool. A split second later he is leaping forward, claws outstreched as he attempts to knock Glyn back.

>>> Drune scratches Glyn with his claws. Glyn catches the blow on his armor! Glyn doesn’t appear to be too injured, however.

Petraverd again nods his agreement with Caileana, flicking an ear.

Petraverd mumbles “Drune trained with Nevarre, don’t forget. The main question in most spars between the two of them is whether Drune’s stamina and passion wins out over Glyn’s speed and tactics.”, to Caileana and Aliyah.

Petraverd mumbles “Drune trained … Nevarre, don’t … The main question … … … … … two … them … … … … and passion wins … … Glyn’s speed and tactics.”, to Caileana and Aliyah.

Glyn hunkers a little warily as Drune lines up for his attack. Sneaking a quick glance behind him, he springs forward trying to avoid as much of the force of the wolf’s charge as he can. Drune’s fangs rake down his hindleg, but he manages to avoid toppling into the water. As if to taunt his opponent, he champs at his rear before sprinting away.

>>> Glyn bites Drune! Drune winces in pain, the wound bleeding a little!

Caileana snorts at Glyn’s latest attack before turning back to Petraverd and Aliyah.

Drune winces, the fire in his eyes growing as Glyn darts behind him. Turning hard, he leaps foward and attempts to return the favor before Glyn gets out of his reach.

.>>> Drune bites Glyn! Glyn winces, the bite stinging him a bit.

You mumble “Right, you pick up a lot from your trainer but eventually your fighting style becomes your own. Glyn and Drune are experienced enought that they use their own tactics.”, to Petraverd and Aliyah.

Caileana mumbles “Right, … … up a … … your … … eventually … fighting style becomes your own. … … Drune … … … that … … their … …”, to Petraverd and Aliyah.

Glyn’s cheeky grin is short-lived as Drune gets a firm grip on the flesh of his rear end. He tenses and presses in, trying to knock his opponent off balance by throwing his body into it and snapping at his forelegs.

>>> Glyn nips at Drune! Drune winces, the bite stinging him a bit.

Drune’s smirk flashes back as his back is once more to the water and Glyn makes his move forward. Rearing up at Glyn’s attack, he lets the wolf knock him onto his back, ignoring the bite to his foreleg and using the momentum and his hind legs to give the wolf a sharp kick in an attempt to knock him into the water behind them.

>>> Drune kicks at Glyn. Glyn doesn’t appear to be too hurt by the blow.

Petraverd flicks an ear as he watches, with another quiet remark.

Petraverd mumbles “Drune’s focusing too much on getting Glyn into the pool, I think. Glyn’s the more adaptable, Drune’ll need to match that.”, to Caileana and Aliyah.

Petraverd mumbles “… focusing … much … getting … … … … … … … … more adaptable, Drune’ll need to … that.”, to Caileana and Aliyah.

Aliyah nods, her tail thumping against the ground.

Caileana nods her agreement.

You mumble “Plus Glyn has fought in the Pool before, and I’m not sure about Drune. Might be better to abandon that idea.”, to Aliyah and Petraverd.

Caileana mumbles “… … … … … … … … … … … … … Drune. … be … … … … …”, to Aliyah and Petraverd.

Glyn’s eyes widen as Drune deliberately gives way and he lurches forward. He scrabbles hard and manages to regain his stance just as his hind paws slip into the water. He growls and leaps away, barrelling straight into Drune’s prone flank, teeth bared.

>>> Glyn bites Drune! Drune winces in pain, the wound bleeding a little!

Petraverd twitches a smirk as he replies to Caileana.

Petraverd mumbles “He has in the river, at least. I can vouch for that one. Didn’t end well for him.”, to Caileana and Aliyah.

Petraverd mumbles “… … in … river, … … I can vouch … that … … … … for …”, to Caileana and Aliyah.

Drune twists hard, the fire in his eyes exploding in both frustration and pain as Glyn takes another snap at his rear. Now with Glyn’s back to the water, he lunges a little to Glyn’s left and a split second later leaps left, attempting to latch onto Glyn’s back with his teeth.

>>> Drune bites Glyn! Glyn winces, the bite stinging him a bit.

Caileana chuckles faintly.

Glyn crouches when he feels Drune’s grip, pausing a moment for him to get in closer before springing his hind end into the air and kicking him in the face.

>>> Glyn kicks at Drune. Drune doesn’t appear to be too hurt by the blow.

Petraverd grins slightly at Glyn’s tactic, for a reason that he apparently prefers to keep to himself.

Drune pushes through the blow, landing on Glyn’s back and taking another snap at him in an attempt to solidify his hold on him.

>>> Drune bites Glyn! Glyn catches the blow on his armor! Glyn winces, the bite stinging him a bit.

Aliyah tilts her head in Petra’s direction, her expression inquisitive. Ears flicking though, she returns her attention back to Drune and Glyn quickly.

Caileana blinks at Glyn herself, interestedly. She watches intently.

Glyn frowns as Drune gets into a superior position. Taking advantage of his low crouch, he tries to twist about underneath his opponent and shove him hard to the side, biting at his chest to dislodge him.

>>> Glyn bites Drune! Drune winces in pain, the wound bleeding a little!

Petraverd mumbles “Told you he was adaptable.”, to Caileana and Aliyah.

Petraverd mumbles “Told you … was …”, to Caileana and Aliyah.

Drune snarls as he twists out from under him and snaps at him. Pulling back hard, he lunges forward a split second later, expression turning intensely focused.

>>> Drune bites Glyn! Glyn winces, the bite stinging him a bit.

Caileana merely nods distractedly.

Aliyah continues to watch, nodding to Petraverd. Her tail is thumping harder now as she thinks about something only partially related to the spar.

Glyn regains his footing in time for Drune’s attack, and gives ground immediately, although his shoulder still catches some of the wolf’s fang. He springs to the right, coming around to shove himself into his opponent’s flank, jaws open.

>>> Glyn bites Drune! Drune winces, the bite stinging him a bit.

Drune merely flinches at the response, his expression very clearly turning to a stone cold focus. Turning swiftly, his motions become more fluid as he takes another bite at Glyn, this time aiming for his side.

>>> Drune bites Glyn hard, his teeth sinking into Glyn’s fur. Glyn winces in pain, the wound bleeding a little!

Petraverd winces slightly, flicking an ear.

Caileana nods her approval.

Petraverd mumbles “And there’s Drune hitting his stride. We’ll see if Glyn’s gained enough of a lead to make up the difference.”, to Caileana and Aliyah.

Petraverd mumbles “And … Drune … … stride. … see … Glyn’s gained enough … … … … … … the difference.”, to Caileana and Aliyah.

( Drune’s teeth dig savagely into Glyn’s hind flank, forcing a groan from him. He freezes for an instant before stiffening and shoving his flank back hard into his attacker’s face, and whipping around to harry his legs. )

>>> Glyn nips at Drune! Drune catches the blow on his armor! Drune winces, the bite stinging him a bit.

Caileana nods again, but a smirk starts growing on her face. “Yeah,” she says, a bit louder.

Drune’s expressions flickers at the bite, but he continues his assualt on Glyn, the focus never leaving his eyes as turns, dives low and takes a snap at Glyn’s chest.

>>> Drune bites Glyn hard, his teeth sinking into Glyn’s fur. Glyn winces in pain, the wound bleeding a little!

Petraverd mumbles “Yes, Drune’s hit his stride all right. Still, Glyn keeps his wits about him. His greatest weapon on the sparring field is his mind, after all.”, to Caileana and Aliyah.

Petraverd mumbles “… … … … … all right. … … … his wits … … … greatest weapon … the sparring … is … … … …”, to Caileana and Aliyah.

Glyn swallows a pained grunt but does not slow down as he presses in harder, hunkering low to shield his underside from further attack while snapping at whatever he can find exposed.

>>> Glyn nips at Drune! Drune winces, the bite stinging him a bit.

Caileana leans over towards her companions to add something.

You mumble “Yeah, that’s what makes Glyn a natural leader, his focus and his strategy. Drune’s more like…a force of nature, after a certain point.”, to Petraverd and Aliyah.

Caileana mumbles “Yeah, that’s what makes … … natural … his focus and his strategy. … … like…a … of nature, after … certain point.”, to Petraverd and Aliyah.

Drune shrugs off the blow to his shoulder, instead pushing through it and attempting to push him back closer to the water, using both his teeth and weight once more.

>>> Drune bites Glyn! Glyn catches the blow on his armor! Glyn winces, the bite stinging him a bit.

Petraverd mumbles “All fire, Drune is.”, to Aliyah and Caileana.

Petraverd mumbles “… fire, Drune is.”, to Aliyah and Caileana.

Glyn flinches and gives way as Drune presses forward, backing away slightly to the right to bend his course. Them abruptly, he springs to the side to try and get around the wolf’s primary weapon and sink his teeth into a haunch.

Caileana’s eyes glow and she nods slowly.

>>> Glyn bites Drune! Drune winces in pain, the wound bleeding a little!

Aliyah exclaims, “Come on!”

Drune stone cold focus cracks at this, the fire in his eyes returning in a blaze. With a swift turn and a rather loud snarl, he leaps up and attempts to latch himself on Glyn’s back again, his mouth wide.

>>> Drune bites Glyn! Glyn winces, the bite stinging him a bit.

Petraverd flicks an ear, getting to his hooves with a glance to Caileana as he mutters, “And now… we play the wild card.” With a cry of ‘Now!’ he flings himself into the fray, dashing toward Glyn with his head lowered!

>>> Petraverd lowers his head, charging toward Glyn and spearing him with his horn. Glyn winces in pain as his fur is pierced by Petraverd’s horn.

Caileana leaps to her paws in one fluid motion and flings herself at Drune, jaws gaping

>>> Caileana bites Drune hard, her teeth sinking into Drune’s fur. Drune winces in pain, the wound bleeding a little!

Glyn eyes Drune’s second attempt at that move and darts fangs scratching his hind end as he scampers away. Carrying through the movement, he curves about and rears up to bring his body weight down on Drune’s flank as he tries to sink his teeth in.

>>> Glyn nips at Drune! Drune winces, the bite stinging him a bit.

Glyn’s eyes widen at a sudden piercing pain. He whips about to see where it came from.

Drune’s grunts as he is knocked off his feet by Caileana’s bite, letting out a snarl as he feels the second bite a flash later. Scrambling to his feet, his eyes roaring, he takes in the battlefield in all of a half a second. With a turn, he leaps forward, disregarding Glyn’s bite and takes a snap at Caileana’s side.

Aliyah blinks, surprised at what just happens. She tenses but does not move.

>>> Drune tries to bite Caileana, but misses.

Petraverd smirks slightly, tail swishing mischievously. “Change of plans, I think,” he says. “Me and Drune, Glyn and Caileana. Last one standing wins for their team.” The last word comes out muffled as he sinks his teeth into Glyn.

>>> Petraverd bites Glyn hard, his teeth sinking into Glyn’s fur. Glyn winces in pain, the wound bleeding a little!

Caileana dances out of the way of Drune’s bit with a blazing grin. Her ears tilt to Petraverd’s words and she nods deeply before whirling to snap at Drune’s shoulder.

>>> Caileana bites Drune hard, her teeth sinking into Drune’s fur. Drune winces, the bite stinging him a bit., the bite stinging him a bit.

Glyn backs away hurriedly to put some distance between him and his unexpected opponent. He takes in the fray and swallows before grunting, lowering his head, and running a charge at the Unicorn.

>>> Glyn nips at Petraverd! Petraverd winces, the bite stinging him a bit.

Drune’s eyes widen as her bite sinks into him. His eyes flickering over towards Glyn and Petraverd, he seems to rethink his strategy. Tearing himself away from Caileana, he bounds forward at full spring and lunges at Glyn’s side in an attempt to knock him off his feel.

>>> Drune nips at Glyn! Glyn winces, the bite stinging him a bit.

Petraverd backs away a few paces, putting him nearer to Drune. He gives a few words to the Winterden Wolf before planting his forehooves and throwing a kick – at Caileana!

Petraverd mumbles “… … separated. … … and keep … from harrying …”, to Drune.

>>> Petraverd kicks Caileana firmly! Caileana is bruised!

Caileana grumbles out a frustrated growl as Drune darts off. She moves after him and is caught squarely by Petraverd’s kick. The growl grows longer and she darts backwards, then runs back forward to fling herself as high as possible at Petraverd’s back, aiming mostly with her fangs.

>>> Caileana bites Petraverd! Petraverd winces, the bite stinging him a bit.

Glyn notices Drune’s attacks and manages to swing away from the worst of it, ignoring the scratches down his flank and returning the favour!

>>> Glyn awkwardly snaps at Drune, his teeth chomping down on mostly air. Drune winces, the bite stinging him a bit.

Drune dives away from most of Glyn’s bite and make another attempt to leap atop his back, teeth wide.

>>> Drune bites Glyn! Glyn winces in pain, the wound bleeding a little!

Aliyah glances between the four of them, ears back now.

Petraverd snorts as Caileana latches onto his back, biting back a sharp whinny as he turns to poke at the Wolf with his horn.

>>> Petraverd lowers his head, charging toward Caileana and spearing her with his horn. Caileana cries out as she is left bleeding!

Glyn grunts as the wolf’s weight lands solidly on his back, his stance staying stable but with poor leverage to yank free. Frantically he twists about and tries to grab one of Drune’s paws.

>>> Glyn bites Drune! Drune winces, the bite stinging him a bit.

Caileana yelps loudly and tumbles off his back awkwardly, but she rolls gracefully when she hits the ground and gets to her paws. She runs in Glyn’s direction, snapping at Drune as she goes, and huffs out, “Glyn!” She adds something lower in tone to her packmate.

>>> Caileana nips at Drune! Drune winces, the bite stinging him a bit.

You mumble “Together … let’s focus on Drune, take Petraverd down together after.”, to Glyn.

Caileana mumbles “Together … let’s focus … Drune, … Petraverd down together after.”, to Glyn.

Drune’s winces and grunts at each succesful bite. Wavering slightly, his ears perk at the sound of their mumble, eyes growing wide. With a hard turn, he leaps for Glyn, using what he has left to dig his claws into his side and drag them both into Cauldron pool in an attempt to even the odds.

>>> Drune tries to claw Glyn, but misses.

Petraverd meanwhile darts toward Drune as Caileana goes after him, and upon catching up with her, sinks his teeth into the she-Wolf and attempts to fling her aside, doing his best to stay close to Drune and keep at least some of the pressure off him.

>>> Petraverd bites Caileana! Caileana winces in pain, the wound bleeding a little!

Glyn manages a hoarse reply to Caileana as he tries for a second break, struggling to twist out from the side as he bites at Drune’s foreleg to shake his grip.

>>> Glyn nips at Drune! Drune winces, the bite stinging him a bit.

Caileana grimaces at the bite from Petraverd, but otherwise doesn’t react except to shake him off. She charges back towards Drune and shoves him with a shoulder before snapping at his side in an attempt to dislodge him from Glyn.

>>> Caileana nips at Drune! Drune winces, the bite stinging him a bit.

Glyn mumbles “Thank-you!”, to Caileana.

COMBAT> Caileana has DEFEATED Petraverd!

Petraverd staggers back, plunking himself down onto the ground with a flurry of snow. “All right, all right, I give!”

Caileana trembles on her paws, blood streaming from three pierced wounds from Petraverd’s horn and blinks in surprise. She exhales and flops onto the ground without further ado.

Glyn galumphs over to the rock standing guard over his satchel, his sides heaving so hard that for a while he cannot even bear to sit. He paces in a tight circle, eyes locked on the other combatants as they gradually relax and pull away.

Drune’s slowly rises to his feet, seemingly ignoring wounds that have matted his fur with blood. Sucking in a deep breath, his expression turns to concern as he sees Caileana tremble. Padding gingerly over to her, he eyes her wounds, brow furrowing deeply. “Caileana… Are you alright? ”

Petraverd pants, catching his breath. “Well… that was… a workout.” He glances over his sparring companions, flicking an ear. “Everyone… all right?”

Caileana groans, her muzzle in the snow. Her voice comes out muffled. “Sit down, Drune, before you hurt yourself.” She rolls her eyes (somehow looking pleased at the same time) and then grimaces. To Petraverd she mumbles, “I’ll live,” also muffled.

Aliyah pads tentatively to Caileana. “Can I do anything for you… get you anything?” she clearly looks concerned for what is probably the first time since she’s been in Narnia.

Glyn gasps, “I… will be. ” He continues his pacing as he watches his opponents with relief as they report. He shakes his head. “Interesting exercise…, Commander. I think we got a… bit more practice… with melee than team… combat.”

Drune chuckles softly, the concern never leaving his eyes as he pads gingerly around her and sits by her side. Brow raising a bit in surprise as Aliyah approaches, he smiles softly at her offer to Caileana.

Petraverd glances to Glyn as he says, “Figured it was about time we had a chance to get some practice in with a fight where… not everyone is at their fullest. Helping defend each other, coordinating under that sort of pressure. And I figured it would be a good opportunity for at least someone to get some practice in fending off multiple opponents.” He shakes out his mane. “Wasn’t /quite/ expecting to end up being that someone, but Lion knows I need the lesson as much as anyone.”

Caileana pushes herself into a more dignified laying down position, and lifts her muzzle at Aliyah in surprise. “I – uh – no, I’ll be fine, thank you though, Tender…” She frowns and zooms in on the scratches on Aliyah’s shoulder, of all things. “Tenderfoot! What happened to /you/?!”

Aliyah looks at her shoulder. “Oh it’s nothing. The Alphas said I could start hitting moving targets, and Virika and I had a bit of a spar today. I will be fine. She went relatively easy on me compared to what I’ve seen her do to others. I admit, her paw became a nice target for my teeth though.” She smirks. “Got tired of being scratched.”

Drune’s eyes turn to Aliyah’s scratches, shooting her a rather appraising look as he listens to her explanation. As she finishes, he gives an approving nod. “Well, congratulations Aliyah… Moving on to living targets, especially your hunter, is a big step in a good direction. ”

Glyn chuckles and nods to Petraverd. “It would be interesting to see what happens in a proper team spar.” Aliyah’s words seize his attention abruptly. “Virika?” he asks. “Oh, that is a good match. I’m glad to hear you’re getting an early chance at a little blood. Rika’s good for that.” He grins with teeth.

Caileana hmphs thoughtfully, and gives a ginger nod as she moves into a sitting position. “Your training is progressing quite quickly,” she observes matter-of-factly, head tipping slightly.

Petraverd flicks an ear. “Perhaps the chance will arise, eventually,” he says to Glyn. As the subject shifts, he finally takes the opportunity to glance himself over, assessing his own wounds.

Aliyah nods. “As I would prefer it. She also says that the two of us will be going on some sort of trip come spring time. Don’t ask me where because I don’t really know other than it sounds like it’s in the Southern portion of Narnia.”

Skarlieth swoops down from above, landing beside you.

Drune turns to examining himself as well, letting the conversation continue on without him.

Caileana ahs. “Interesting,” she observes. She too turns to start addressing her own wounds, carefully licking each bite and stab.

Glyn, steadier now, picks his way over to join the three wolves. He sits and inspects his own fairly savage scrapes, and observes to Drune, “Well, that was definitely the sort of exercise I was needing. Thank-you for the spar, Hunter. You are always a most difficult opponent. And full of surprises.” He smiles.

Skarlieth glides towards the gathering from the south, wings spread wide and each beat carefully measured. He circles a couple of times overhead before beginning to descend.

Aliyah tilts her head again. “Caileana, you sure you don’t need anything? Those horn wounds look… awful.” She frowns.

Petraverd keeps where he is for the moment, slightly separate from the Wolves as he cleans his horn against a flank.

Drune’s eyes bounce between all those gathered, catching a flurry of feathers out of the corner of his eyes as Skarlieth approaches. “Hail, Skarlieth! ” he calls out, standing carefully.

Caileana’s tips an ear to Glyn’s words, and then looks up from her licking when Aliyah speaks again. She smiles faintly. “Yes, well. Petraverd’s horn is a formidable weapon.” She shoots a glance at him. “But there’s really nothing to be done except wait for them to heal. So thank you, but no.”

Petraverd twitches his ears, glancing back to Caileana. “One I only use on a formidable opponent. That chain you wear is well earned indeed.” He lets out a whinny toward the Eagle as he takes note of his arrival.

Skarlieth lands in some of the space between Petraverd and Drune. As he half-bows his greeting, he casts his gaze over them all. “Hail to you all. I take it that I arrived just after a friendly bout?”

Aliyah nods slowly and then spots Skarlieth. “Hello.”

Glyn lets out a gravelly chuckle at Caileana’s words. “It certainly is and you faced it down. Thank-you for coming to my rescue near the end there.” He smiles warmly. He lifts his head to call out a cheerful greeting to the Eagle. “Indeed! Welcome, Skarlieth.”

Caileana smiles broadly at Petraverd and bows her head to him. “Hail, Skarlieth,” she calls out. To Glyn she gives a grin. “Anytime, Glyn.”

Drune snorts at Skarlieths words. “I suppose you could say that… ” he chuckles and then nods at Glyn’s comment. “Indeed, Caileana… your teeth were sharp and I felt their sting a good number of times after you joined. ” he hehs. “It was well fought all around. ” At this, he gingerly shakes himself out, glancing skyward. “Well, I must be on one last patrol for the night… But. ” He addresses the group at this. “… I am hoping to explore those caverns once more tonight, if any of you are willing. I should be heading to its entrance after my patrol. ”

Glyn’s ears lift, curious at Drune’s words.

Aliyah flicks an ear, looking down. She speaks softly. “I would be willing to go, but whether I am allowed is another question…?” She glances briefly to Caileana and Glyn.

Petraverd nods slightly. “Safe patrols to you then, Drune. And… /do/ at least try and take it a bit easy. Let yourself rest up at least a little.”

Skarlieth looks toward Drune and nods. “I shall be there, in that case.” His countenance has a grim cast, though his words are calm enough. He glances at Aliyah at her comment, a slight frown narrowing his eyes momentarily.

Caileana has been having some difficulty reaching the bite wound from Petraverd square in the center of her spine. She looks up at Drune. “Well, if I can /stand/” she says, partially joking, “I shall be there.” She looks at Aliyah and shakes her head with a small frown. “We would be remiss to put you in such potential danger, Tenderfoot. You are not ready.”

Aliyah sighs disappointedly, but in all seriousness (and lacking the snark of days prior), she asks, “And what must I do in order to prove myself ready?”

Drune hesitates a moment at Aliyah’s words, shaking his head a moment later. “I appreciate your willingness Aliyah, it is to your credit… Although, I think I speak for– ” he nods at Caileana’s comment. “Your packmates and the Watch when I say, that this venture has a potential for danger that is far too high for you quite yet. ” Then looking to Petraverd, he hehs, nodding once.

Petraverd’s glance shifts to Aliyah, and he twitches his ears as he tilts his head, looking thoughtful.

Caileana’s expression grows extremely dangerous, and gives off the impression it would be unwise to argue with her. “Unless I should be told otherwise by our superiors,” she says firmly, “while you bear the title Tenderfoot you will not be allowed anywhere near those caverns. It is not a burden a Tenderfoot should have to bear.” There is something in her yellow eyes that says she speaks from experience.

Skarlieth remains quiet as the other weigh in, though he gives a slight nod at Drune’s last sentence.

Aliyah nods slowly, remaining silent. Her face still shows disappointment however.

Glyn regards Aliyah for a long while. “It is difficult,” he says at last. “but it is for the best. I know the frustration you’re feeling. I’ve lived it but just remember that Ulfden will be strongest when all of its packmates train hard and reach their full potential. Your trainer knows best how to achieve that.”

Drune nods once more, gaze flicking to Caileana. After a moment, he mumbles something to her then regards the rest once more. “Alright, well I shall see those able to… when the time comes, I shouldn’t be long. ” he offers.

Glyn’s look to Caileana is hooded.

Drune mumbles “Rest well… It does me good to know that you will be with us at during our venture in the Caverns”, to Caileana.

Drune mumbles “… … I … me good … … … … will be with us at … … … in … …”, to Caileana.

You mumble “Thank you, Drune. Be careful then, and I’ll see you soon.”, to Drune.

Caileana mumbles “… … … Be careful then, and I’ll see you soon.”, to Drune.

Petraverd gives a small nod, breaking his silence after Glyn speaks. “Your Hunter will be the best one to decide when you at a point in your training where you might be able to provide such aid as would be needed in that sort of venture.” He flicks an ear. “There will be plenty of opportunity in the coming days – there is much that needs to be seen to. When Virika feels the time is right…perhaps we can find something that would both suit you and have need of you.” He nods to Drune. “Take care,” he says simply.

Caileana tips an ear to Drune and says something quietly to him. She inclines her head at him. After a moment, she glances to Glyn at his look and tips her head.

Skarlieth’s gaze flashes towards the two Wolves and then away again, carefully neutral. He does, however, seem to sink into a bit of thought right after. He inclines his head to Drune.

You mumble “Scout?”, to Glyn.

Caileana mumbles something incomprehensible to Glyn.

Aliyah says simply, “Okay.” She looks westward, going deep in thought again, her ears only flicking at the words coming from Caileana and Drune occasionally.

Glyn shakes his head to Caileana, murmuring something in return. Turning, he dips his head to Drune. “Take care, Drune, and good adventure.”

Glyn mumbles “It’s nothing important. We can speak of it later if you like.”, to Caileana.

Glyn mumbles “… … … … … … … … … if … …”, to Caileana.

Caileana weighs Glyn’s comment, considering. She speaks quietly back and gives him her usual faint smile.

You mumble “If it doesn’t bother you. It would be nice to have a chat, anyways.”, to Glyn.

Caileana mumbles “If it doesn’t … … … … be … … … a … anyways.”, to Glyn.

Drune pads off quietly into the night, stealing one last glance at Caileana in passing.

Petraverd’s glance shifts toward Glyn as he says, “Speaking of much to see to, though…”

Drune trots north.

Glyn returns the smile and mutters something in return. His ears cock at the Unicorn’s comment. “Ah, of course. You wish to speak in private?”

Glyn mumbles “I would like that.”, to Caileana.

Glyn mumbles “I would … that.”, to Caileana.

Petraverd twitches his ears as he says, “If you’ve the time, it would be appreciated. We’re a bit overdue for a proper strategy meeting, after all.”

Caileana’s smile widens, and she gives an acquiescing nod. She listens to Petraverd and then turns back to Glyn to say something else softly.

Skarlieth remains in thought as the Wolves whisper, glancing around briefly as the Unicorn addresses Glyn. Once seeing it does not involve him, he casts his gaze back towards Lantern Waste, head tipped slightly.

You mumble “Me too. Why don’t you come find me later, then?”, to Glyn.

Caileana mumbles “… … … … … come find … … then?”, to Glyn.

Aliyah yawns and stretches out at the pool’s edge.

Glyn mumbles “I will.”, to Caileana.

Glyn mumbles something incomprehensible to Caileana.

Glyn replies softly to his packmate and then rises with care. “Of course, Commander. I’m not disposed to do anything more strenuous for quite a while now.” He grins and makes his way over. To the assembled beasts he bids, “Have good evening, all of you.”

Skarlieth’s attention returns to Glyn and he dips his head. “And to you, Commander, Subcommander…”

Aliyah nods in Glyn’s direction. “You as well.”

Caileana nods. “Good evening to you both. And Petraverd…” she smirks. “Thanks for the spar.”

Petraverd glances to Glyn with a faint smirk. “Perhaps that was part of my plan.” He glances to Caileana, smirk still on his face, before he nods to the others with a simple, “Good eve. Take care, all of you.”

Petraverd trots north.
Glyn trots north.

Caileana gives her wounds one final inspection as the pair departs and then nods to herself. She shakes out her fur so that it falls as it should, and then, glancing down, licks the fur along her long scar back into place as she often does after a spar. Then she looks up.

Skarlieth watches them depart as well before looking back at the two Wolves. “Beyond what sounds to have been quite the spar, I hope you have both had a pleasant evening?”

Aliyah nods to Skarlieth.

Caileana chuckles and also nods to Skarlieth. “Quite the spar indeed – Petraverd is still interested in testing how well his Guards do under surprise attacks.” She smirks. “But yes, my evening has been quite pleasant.”

Skarlieth clacks his beak lightly. “I feel someone ought to return the favor…though I imagine any who tried would find themselves rather at odds with his horn quite quickly.”

Caileana says, “Most definitely. Until I’ve bested him in a one-on-one spar, I should feel little confidence in my ability to spring on him like that. But,” she smiles mischievously, “it might be worth losing to see the look on his face if one could truly catch him off guard.”

Skarlieth seems to smile a bit fiercely, a glint passing through his gaze. “Perhaps I may have to take the next opportunity I see, come what may… Though I am rather unable to use stealth to surprise him, as Drune or another Wolf would be able to.”

Caileana thinks about this. “I don’t know…if the angle was right, and you dove in instead of flapped in, you might be able to manage it.”

Skarlieth spreads his wings a touch while dipping his head. “It does seem to work quite well on hunts, though I believe Petraverd is somewhat more observant than the typical rabbit. I am not sure, however, if that is as much a matter of stealth as speed.”

Caileana snort-chuckles at the comparison of Petraverd to a rabbit. She ahems. “Well, that I couldn’t say.”

Skarlieth tips his head. “Do you not occasionally hunt prey by running it down, rather than pouncing from concealment?”

Caileana bobs her head in a nod. “That works best for big game, though – little creatures like rabbits, I find it’s best to catch them by surprise. Slippery things, they are.”

Aliyah looks at her rabbits and grins toothily.

You ask, “Would you agree, Tenderfoot?”

Aliyah says, “Indeed.”

Skarlieth nods once. “A dive is much the same concept as a sudden burst of speed, or the initial charge, I would imagine.” He pauses for a moment to consider. “Although if it is to be an ending, it works better for smaller game. While a large beast may be stunned, there still is something of a challenge after.”

Caileana nods. “Which is where the running it down or harrying it to death comes in, with deer especially. Still,” she pauses. “for the purpose of merely surprising Petraverd, I think a dive might work.”

Skarlieth inclines his head. “I believe that is true. The question, then, is whether we wait until he is involved in a spar already, as he has taken to doing, or simply ambush him and accept whatever consequences might come from such a manuever…” Judging by the glitter in his eyes as he says this, he’s willing to risk the repercussions either way.

Caileana barks a laugh, eyes twinkling. “As he is your Commander and the consequences you’d have to face would be yours, I’d say that’s a decision you’d have to make on your own.”

Skarlieth nods thoughtfully, his sharp gaze scanning the sky as if already plotting out how this encounter will play out. “Indeed…”

Caileana chuckles again, and shakes her head. “This could get very interesting, or else a bit much.”

Skarlieth clacks his beak once. “I am not say I intend to make a habit of the practice… I cannot imagine the Commander will mind overly much, however. He is not one to give what he cannot take.”

Caileana nods. “True.”

Skarlieth glances towards the Waste, gaze growing more solemn as the topic fades.

Caileana lets the silence stand for a while, and then turns to Aliyah. “Any thoughts, Tenderfoot? Something to be taken away from the spar, perhaps?” She smirks faintly, and it might not be remiss to assume that she’s not particularly serious about this trainerly sounding question.

Aliyah says, “I have no thoughts about it.” Her ears betray her words though as they are flat against her head.

Skarlieth glances towards Aliyah as Caileana poses the question. His expression remains neutral as he examines her quietly.

Caileana gives Aliyah a curious look at her apparent hostility, but she shrugs indifferently.

Aliyah says, “A bit reminiscent of something is all…”

Skarlieth looks away again, dipping his head slightly in a brief acceptance of her answer.

Caileana ahs. “Yes, well,” she joshes, “If you think our mock-battles are fierce, you should see our real ones.” She smiles, but the expression becomes rather serious at her own words.

Skarlieth’s expression goes very grim for a moment, though as he is not looking toward either of the Wolves it might go unnoticed. He lifts his head as if in defiance of his own thoughts.

Aliyah hmms, shaking her head absent-mindedly.

Caileana falls silent and into her own thoughts, herself.

Aliyah rises and looks from one to the other. “It was nice talking to the both of you… and listening. I best be off to the den though. Skarlieth, Caileana… Have a nice evening.”

Skarlieth looks around sharply at the voice, though he nods evenly enough. “A good evening to you, then, Aliyah.”

Caileana bows her head. “Good evening Tenderfoot.”

Aliyah trots north.

Skarlieth watches her depart. When she passes out of view, he comments, “It seems much reminds her of the past… though she is hardly the only one.”

Caileana hehs. “Indeed. The more I see of her the more she reminds me of myself as a young Tenderfoot – my thoughts turned inward much too often in those days too.” She sighs. “I do not mean that we should forget our pasts – that, never – but I do wish the horrors could become less easy to dwell on.”

Skarlieth does not look directly at her as he replies quietly, “They do, with enough time…”

Caileana nods a bit. “Though sometimes, it does not seem enough.”

Skarlieth gives a somewhat wry clack of his beak. “Perhaps so,” he concedes, then adds, “Particularly when strong reminders come about.”

Caileana hms. “Indeed.”

Skarlieth takes a quiet breath and then looks at Caileana, expression calm once more. “What are your thoughts upon this emminent venture?” He inquires.

Drune arrives from the north.

Caileana rolls her shoulders in a shrug. “I don’t see it being too much of a danger, though of course there is always that possibility. If there was any impending evils, odds are we would have found traces of them elsewhere. So likely it will be a simple matter of exploration and finding where this entrance to the moors, if there is one, is located. Of course events are rarely so simple.” she shrugs again, this time with a small grimace of pain.

Skarlieth’s eyes narrow slightly at her wince. “Likely so…” he agrees.

Drune pads back towards Cauldron Pool, expression rather neutral as he scans the woods about him, ears flicking at each sound.

Caileana eyes her wounds with a frown. “Although, it perhaps might be wiser for me to abstain tonight, much as I dislike the idea.” She still hasn’t moved from her seated position where she collapsed after the spar.

Skarlieth looks towards Drune as the movement catches his eye and nods briefly. He focuses upon Caileana again, frown deepening. “Caileana, are you well?”

Drune catches sight of the two, nodding in return to Skarlieth before looking to Caileana, his eyes narrowing in concern. “Caileana… ?” he asks, coming closer.

Caileana takes a breath to answer Skarlieth when Drune comes back. She snorts out a laugh, “Guys, I’ll be /fine/. In a few days.” She smirks and laughs again, but sucks in a breath of pain caused by the laughing.

Skarlieth looks concerned, but dips his head slightly, letting Drune speak instead.

Drune frowns, the concern in his expression growing. “You are certain?”

Caileana nods a little. “Petraverd’s too good to hit any major organs, so I think we’re fine,” she says with a half-smile.

Skarlieth dips his head noncommitally. “But even a skilled warrior can unintentionally do damage…”

Drune hehs, not looking entirely convinced. “You’re sure you don’t want Panacea to take a look at those..?”

Caileana rolls her eyes. “I’ll be /fiine/.” She mutters, still keeping very still.

Skarlieth goes silent, examining the Wolf closely.

Drune pads around her, examining her wounds closely. “Until you pass out… ” he frowns.

Caileana sighs in exasperation.

Skarlieth glances at Drune, head tipped a bit questioningly.

Drune shakes his head, clearing some of the concern off his expression and sitting, still eyeing her. “Well, regardless… We might have to postpone our venture into the Caverns, being that we don’t have enough people. ” he says, seemingly to Skarlieth. “Unless Petraverd approved a scouting mission… ”

Caileana nods a little and glances to Skarlieth.

Skarlieth shakes his head slightly. “He departed before any more discussion was truly made. If we are not going to the Twisted Caverns, I am not opposed to a brief sojourn into the northern passage… if you are still willing.” His glance flicks towards Caileana and back. “But if you do not wish it, it is understandable.”

Drune’s gaze flickers between the two, his expression hesitant. “No… no… I am not opposed to doing so. ”

Caileana frowns faintly, but does not yet object.

Skarlieth looks a bit unconvinced at his reply, glancing in the direction Glyn and Petraverd took. “Whichever we do, we likely ought to first speak with the Commander…” he makes no move to leave, however, instead just looking back at Caileana.

Drune nods, glancing between the two, the hesitant look never leaving his expression.

Aelius arrives from the north.

Caileana grunts. “Well…” she says, “I can at least walk over with you two and see how well I do.”

Skarlieth eyes her. “I imagine standing would be the first necessity. Do not push yourself overly much, Caileana…”

Drune nods slightly at Skarlieth’s comment, watching her carefully.

Caileana huffs and rolls her eyes. She clenches her jaw shut and climbs carefully and slowly to her paws, grimacing only slightly. Then she gives Skarlieth a look and stretches into a more easy stance, holding herself gingerly.

Skarlieth nods, expression unchanging. “Good,” he says simply.

Drune’s mouth closes, a small grumble coming from the depths as he watches her. After she has stood up completely, he nods once. “After you… ”

Caileana grumbles faintly and inclines her head.

Skarlieth spreads his wings and nods his agreement to Drune’s words.

Petraverd trots toward you from downstream, following the riverbank.
Glyn trots toward you from downstream, following the riverbank.

Drune moves to come up alongside Caileana, watching her closely, the concern very evident on his expresion.

Caileana takes a breath and starts walking, very slowly, in the direction Petraverd and Glyn disappeared. Her expression is very intentionally blank.

Adara arrives from the north.

Skarlieth folds his wings again, giving a very soft (nigh inaudible) sigh as he realizes that unless he plans to literally fly circles around them, he’ll have to walk. He picks his way a bit awkwardly alongside the Wolves, expression likewise even.

Glyn appears at the edge of the clearing once more alongside Petraverd, talking at any easy pace. “It was an interesting experiment, certainly, and I really do think these team spars are promising and we can do even more with them…”

Petraverd follows the river back toward the Pool, keeping even with Glyn. “We have the essentials down rather well by this point,” he says as he nods, “it’s making use of them in a variety of circumstances that we need practice with.”

Drune keeps to Caileana’s side, coming a little closer to mumble something to her as they pad. After doing so, his ears perk at the sound of Glyn and Petraverd coming their way. His head inclining, he lets out a short bark to them.

Drune mumbles “Are you sure you are up for coming all the way to the Cave entrance?”, to Caileana.

Drune mumbles “Are you … … are up … … all … … … … … entrance?”, to Caileana.

Adara walks along down the river.

Caileana’s ears perk up at the sound of voices and she lets out a breath that she may have been holding. She stops, and inclines her head to Petraverd and Glyn. The determined set to her shoulders disappears into a pained one and she glances to Drune and admits quietly, “Probably not.”

Skarlieth’s attention focuses on the approaching Wolf and Unicorn and he nods to them before casting a concerned glance back at Caileana.

Aelius hops along as he makes his way towards the pool from the north.

Glyn nods to Petraverd’s words and notices the procession before him. “Ah, Drune, Skarlieth, Caileana, we were just talking about the expedition coming up and I was thinking…” His attention drifts to Caileana’s odd posture. He quirks an ear and takes a step closer. “Cail? Are you alright?”

Caileana groans loudly and sinks back to a sitting position, looking exasperated. “I’ll be /fine/. Petraverd,” she nods at him carefully, “just got me good in that spar, that’s all.” She takes on a bristly expression.

Petraverd frowns slightly, and he shifts a bit on his hooves.

Adara makes her way toward the group when she sees them.

Drune’s expression flickers between the newcomers and Caileana, not yet noticing Adara or Aelius. Sucking in a breath, he seems to mull something over a moment before looking to Caileana fully. “Would you like me to accompany you back to your den so you can get some rest… ” he pauses, looking somewhat hesitant. “Or…at least, close to it? ”

Skarlieth remains silent, though he nods to Adara as she comes nearer.

Aelius eyes the group curiously as he moves slowly closer.

Glyn tilts his head, frowning. “Is it really that serious?”

Caileana glares. “No,” she mutters in response to Glyn. Looking to Drune she softens and says something quietly.

You mumble “Not that I don’t appreciate the offer. Maybe later?”, to Drune.

Caileana mumbles “Not … … … … the offer. Maybe later?”, to Drune.

Petraverd doesn’t look quite convinced of this, but doesn’t respond to it directly, at least. He shakes out his mane as he says, “That spar took a good deal out of all of us, I’d say, and probably wisest not to push ourselves /too/ harshly, lest we end up paying for it later. I certainly intend to take it easy this evening, at least.”

Adara joins the others, not speaking up yet, though she does return Skarlieth’s silent greeting.

Skarlieth glances at the Unicorn and nods slightly, though he shifts his wings a touch as well in a somewhat restless movement.

Drune simply nods at her response, expression turning raher neutral as he shifts on his haunches. Looking around, he catches sight of Adara and Aelius, shooting them both a nod.

Caileana sighs at Drune’s response and turns to nod her agreement with Petraverd quietly.

Aelius stops a short ways from Drune and nods back to him.

Glyn also turns to Jana and Aelius, dipping his head in greeting. “Well. Petraverd and I were speaking about the reconnaissance you’ve been planning. Is that still happening this evening? We’ve agreed that it would be useful for me to join you.”

Skarlieth looks towards Glyn. “If any are willing to continue with that plan, I shall accompany them.”

Aelius dips his head back to Glyn.

Drune nods at Glyn’s comment. ” I still had hopes of it… ” he replies, eyes flickering to all those gathered.

Petraverd nods a bit. “Then there’s everyone’s answer, I suppose.”

Caileana inclines her head. “I will pass for tonight,” she says quietly.

Glyn asks, “Alright, so we do have at least three, and a mix of skills. That sounds like a good party. Perhaps we should make our way to the tower and get started?”

Skarlieth nods once. If someone who knew how to read Eagles was paying close attention, they might be able to see the paradoxically relief and tension flash across his expression.

Adara crosses her arms over her stomach.

Drune nods slightly. “Indeed.. before it grows too late. ”

Petraverd nods. “Safe ventures, then. I’ll expect a report tomorrow, of course.”

Adara says, “If you go by the house, reckon Auremh’ll join you.”

Skarlieth nods once. “I will meet you there, then.” Looking towards the ones who are not planning on going, he half-bows. “A good eve and clear skies to you all. Farewell.”

A son of adam with unprepossessing features comes walking toward you across the pool.

Glyn nods to Jana. “Thank-you, we will pick him up on the way. Alright. If everyone coming is ready, let’s be off.”

Drune nods at Adara’s words, shooting a glance at Caileana and hesitating a brief moment before beginning to make his way away from the group. “Farewell. ” he offers, before beginning to make his way Northward.

Caileana bows her head to the group, expression blank.

Skarlieth takes off and soars toward the Tower.

Petraverd watches the group depart, ears twitching, face all business.

Drune begins making his way northward, Myrd and Glyn in tow.

Adara releases a breath through her nose.

Aelius watches the group leave for a moment. “Hi Petraverd sir!” He says finally.

Petraverd shakes out his mane before he turns the Fox, dipping a nod. “Evening, Aelius,” he says. “How are you faring tonight?”

Adara glances at Aelius.

Aelius bobs his head as he responds, “I’m faring pretty well tonight, and quite a night it is. Yourself?”

Caileana lets out a breath and climbs gingerly to her paws, still keeping a blank face. “Well. Think I will head back to the den. Good night, everyone.”

Adara says, “Goodbye, Caileana.”

Aelius nods to the she-wolf, “Good night Caileana ma’am! Take care.”

Petraverd replies to Aelius, “Well enough, I would say. Been a fairly productive day, I think.” He glances to Caileana, asking, “Want some company on the way back?”

Caileana offers Petraverd a small smile. “Nah. I’ll be fine, really. Thanks.”

Petraverd nods slightly. “Then a good eve to you, Caileana. Take care.”

Caileana nods again and pads slowly towards the den.
